Here’s Why Parents Need To Get In The Photos This Christmas

Scan through your phone pictures, mommies and daddies. How many include your face with your baby? I bet not as much as the streams of your child's face in every imaginable angle.

That's perfectly understandable because we just can’t help but adore them! We also have all kinds of excuses: I look fat, I don't have makeup, I am not dressed, I don't have kilay. That’s why we always end up with, "Kayo nalang," and “Ako nalang ang kukuha ng picture.”

Try, however, to pause and think about it: These photos are fleeting moments. It cannot be repeated. If you fail to include your face now, how would that make you or your child feel in the future?

I know for a fact that it will only lead to regret. 

Fleeting moments

I lost my mom this year due to Covid-19, and while I was searching for photos of us together, I realize that I don’t have a lot. Unfortunately, my mom also didn’t take a lot of photos with me back when I was just a kid—save for some mandatory graduation pictures. Obviously, those are not enough.

Now that I have a baby, I realize that I also inherited my mom’s prejudice against being in the frame. I took a lot of photos of my baby, or my mom with my baby, but didn’t really feel the need to include my pimple-infested face. That was a mistake.

I shouldn’t have cared so much about how I looked, and just took as many shots as possible. What I would pay to have all those raw, real, and untaken photographs now!

I don’t mean to scare anyone, but life is truly fleeting and unpredictable. Whether you live to be a hundred years old or more, you and your child will always prefer to have these moments captured and immortalized, than not at all.
