  • We cannot help but admire how Filipinos are able to stay resilient and maintain a positive mindset despite the hardships brought by the COVID-19 pandemic and the community quarantine. One of the stories that have touched citizens is the story of Lauro Paredes, a jeepney driver who was able to restart his livelihood through a delivery service provider.

On Facebook, a user named Chammy Pasumbal Jalique shared the heartwarming exchange she had with the driver a few days before Father’s Day.

Posting a few candid photos of Mang Lauro delivering the item that she bought, Chammy shares that he even called her up to confirm her order. Chammy recalls him saying.

True enough, you can see Mang Lauro’s happy smile as he carried the item toward Chammy’s house. Take a look:

In another post, Urban Essentials, a popular online baby store, shares that Mang Lauro is their first ever “LalaJeep” driver. LalaJeep is an initiative by delivery service app Lalamove and the Quezon City local government to help jeepney drivers who were displaced from work due to the community quarantine.

I feel his gratitude na may trabaho siya ngayon, finally! After months of walang biyahe, walang kita, walang mapakain sa pamilya. At his age, nag-ta-trabaho pa rin siya.”

The page also encouraged their customers to try and book LalaJeep if they are picking up big items from the store to support jeepney drivers. Currently, the service is available for Quezon City residents.
