Giving back does not have to be grand (or multimillion-peso) gestures.
The non-profit organization of mompreneur and actress Neri Miranda called Small Change is helping underprivileged children get an early education through a daycare program.
"Ito yung daycare na nabanggit ko dati. Maliit lang siya pero kaya mag-accommodate ng 39 students," Neri wrote as a caption for the photo of the Little Angel Child Development Center, a daycare facility in her hometown of Barangay Sicat in Alfonso, Cavite.
The mom of one had mentioned to husband, Parokya ni Edgar frontman, Chito Miranda, Jr., that many families could still not afford the Php100-per-month fee to let their children attend daycare. So the couple through Small Change has decided to "adopt" them by covering the families' monthly payment. So far, the couple is sending 25 students to the daycare center.
Through Small Change, Little Angel Child Development Center, which is open to children ages 3 to 4, received toys and educational materials from Learning Playground. The daycare center is also giving away free shoes and uniforms, courtesy of World Healing Foundation.
The daycare facility is equipped with a kitchen to facilitate the feeding program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). It also has a garden where some of the kids' parents use to grow vegetables they can use to cook food to sell.
Neri says the daycare center still needs donations and volunteers. People who will "adopt" a child to send to daycare will receive the contact details of your child scholar's parents, so they can check on their progress and verify that their contribution is being put to good use. (Neri warns others to be wary of scams. "Hindi rin po ako magpo-post ng bank details kung saan pwede magpadala, beware po at baka may manloko na naman po," she wrote on Instagram.)
This isn't the first time Neri is paying it forward. In 2011, Small Change reached out to kids in Bataan and Subic Bay, Olongapo. She organized volunteers to teach the kids to read and write and brought books, groceries, toys, and clothes.
Good job, Mommy Neri!
