LOOK: Parents Paint Inspirational Quotes on Grade School Bathroom StallsThe project spreads good vibes amidst negativity from social media and TV.by Finnian Curran .
With all negativity sprouting everywhere, it’s nice to be reminded that there is still a lot of good in this world. Bullying may have taken different forms and sometimes deadly outcomes, but it does not prevail.
Parents of fifth-grade students at Mary Moore Elementary school in Arlington, Texas, have painted the student bathroom stalls with uplifting and inspirational quotes in a bid to spread “love, kindness, and positivity” throughout the campus.
According to school principal Tyson Jones, a group of fifth-grade moms worked for over 37 hours over one weekend, last February 15 and February 16 of 2018 to paint the stalls.
The parents receive so much support from the community, but they did all the work. They sanded down the existing bathroom stall doors, painted them black, and wrote messages such as “your mistakes don’t define you,” “kindness changes everything,” and “she believed she could so she did.”ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
“We feel that our children are privy to too much negativity in their lives via social media and television, and we had a very special group of parents step forward to complete this project and add a piece of daily positive encouragement for our students,” Jones said.
Since returning to school, the students have “taken a sense of pride and ownership, and have nothing but exciting things to say.”
Due to overwhelmingly positive reactions from students, parents, and community members, the school plans to continue spreading these messages of kindness and encouragement in different ways throughout our campus. Other campuses copied the project or started "something similar in their schools.”
“I definitely hope that our parents’ random act of kindness inspires many other schools to do the same. Our kids can always use an extra boost of happiness and joy,” Jones said.
Photos of the bathroom stalls shared with the school’s Facebook page had earned over 186,000 shares as of publishing time. Many other schools have also shared their own bathroom stall projects in the comments.
