'Congratulations, You Have a Baby Girl!' Cop Delivers Baby After Stopping Speeding CarHe didn't issue a ticket and instead helped deliver a baby.by Beau Donelly .
Policemen around the world get a bad rep, but most officers are really just intent on keeping the peace and protecting their citizens. Like this cop from Florida, USA, who helped deliver a baby on the back seat of a car that he pulled over for speeding in the early hours of Tuesday, October 1, 2019.
The Collier County Sheriff’s Office posted on its Facebook page that Deputy Robert Pounds helped deliver the baby girl in Naples after he pulled over the car, which he clocked doing 63 miles per hour (mph) in a 45 mph zone.
The footage, narrated by Pounds, shows him approaching the car before being told by the driver that his wife was in labor on the back seat. "Officer, you have the right to stop me, I’m not gonna even lie,” said the husband, who can be heard telling Pounds in the video, “We have a baby coming out.” His wife, who was in labor, could also be heard screaming in the background.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
The deputy calls Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for assistance, then quickly retrieves a blanket and gloves from his patrol car, and then delivers the baby.
Pounds delivered a beautiful baby girl according to the sheriff office’s Facebook post. He made sure the mom was OK and the infant was breathing. Once EMS arrived, they cut the cord, checked out the mom and baby, and transported them to the hospital.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Pounds said it was the first time in his 26 years on the job that he’d experienced something like this.
“It was exciting, it was nerve-wracking, but I was happy to be the one to help,” he said.
