Earlier this month, a video of a dancing security guard quickly went viral after a Facebook user named Matet Gerona uploaded a clip that showed off his impressive dance moves. Not only were netizens entertained by his killer steps, it also showed that Pinoys can still have fun despite the pandemic we are facing now.
That guard is Ryniel Pineda, 33, who works at Manuel J. Santos Hospital Renal Care Center in Butuan City. Apart from his day job, he is also apparently a popular Tiktok user with over 600 thousand followers and 5.1 million likes.
Ryniel started his Tiktok videos back in March 2020, when the community quarantine started. “Nag-ti-Tiktok ako dahil po talaga rin namang kinahiligan ko nang sumayaw noon pa, since bata pa talaga ako,” he shares in an interview with Summit Videos.
He makes his videos during breaktime at work, or after duty. He also does it as a form of exercise. “Hindi naman po sila [hospital staff] nagagalit dahil alam rin po nila na ang ginagawa kong pag-ti-Tiktok is nasa tamang oras po. At saka masaya rin naman sila na naging ganito ang nangyari sa’kin ngayon,” he shares.
If you’re wondering why Ryniel’s moves are so smooth, it’s because he was formerly a choreographer with his own dance crew in Cebu City when he was younger. But due to some unfortunate events, he eventually had to move back to Butuan in search of a more stable job. After all, he has a wife and an 8-year-old son to take care of.
Despite the hardships in life that he has experienced, Ryniel is able to maintain a positive outlook. He’s also become a celebrity of sorts thanks to Tiktok, plus he’s still able to pursue his passion for dancing.
Don’t worry — you can expect more videos from Ryniel since he’s grateful for the attention he’s gotten. He also wants to cheer more people up especially in these trying times.
“Talaga namang hindi ko inaasahan ‘yung mga viral videos ko. Hindi ko inakala dahil marami naman palang natuwa. Kaya maraming-maraming salamat sa mga nag-support po dahil kung wala rin kayo, hindi ako makikilala sa karamihan po,” he says.
