Lorina Tan, Smart Parenting Gamechanger 2025 Awardee for Entrepreneurship

“No matter what you’re going through, Tiny Buds will be here growing with you,” shares Lorina Tan, Marketing Head of Tiny Buds Baby Naturals, as a promise to all parents.
Tiny Buds, Huge Impact
Raising a newborn is one of the most beautiful and most demanding chapters in a parent’s life. For first-time parents, the worries start small but feel constant. Maybe it’s a cluster of red dots on your baby’s butt cheeks. Maybe it’s the dry, flaky scalp of a three-month-old. When every decision feels big, it helps to have products you can count on.
Tiny Buds began in 2009 as a family-owned, female-led business with a single product. Conceptualized by Tan’s mother, the brand became one of the first in the Philippines to champion natural ingredients in baby care. Today, Tiny Buds offers more than 50 innovative essentials and is now a well-loved name among Filipino families. They are also wallet friendly, with products ranging from P100 to under P300. My personal favorites are Tiny Buds Rice Baby Powder, Tiny Buds After Bites Natural Soothing Gel, Tiny Buds Happy Days Natural Sunflower Baby Oil, and Tiny Buds Organic Baby Wipes.
The brand’s mission is simple but powerful: to turn parents’ “moments of panic into moments of magic” with safe, natural, and thoughtful solutions. At the core is a belief that every child is a tiny bud that needs gentle care. Each product is free from harsh chemicals, artificial preservatives, and unnecessary additives, giving parents safe options they can trust.
Lorina, the dynamic marketing lead of Tiny Buds, has always believed natural baby care should be accessible to everyone, long before “clean” and “organic” became popular labels.

Our largest campaigns aren’t just discounts and promos. Whenever we can, we incorporate something meaningful that gives back to communities.
Smart Parenting (SP): What inspired the creation of Tiny Buds and how have you continued to grow for the past decade, especially with many baby brands in the market?
Lorina Tan (LT): Back when my mom first started Tiny Buds, hindi pa masyadong uso yung natural ingredients when it comes to baby care. She wanted to provide that to the market at a reasonable price. At a time when it was difficult for a normal mom to use completely natural baby care, we made it possible by offering products at reasonable prices.
The industry has grown a lot. You can see so many choices nowadays, but that didn’t stop us. One thing we pride ourselves on is innovation. Tiny Buds launches many products, most of which are inspired by our customers. Our brand’s core and promise is to grow and be with our customers, no matter where they are in their parenting journey. As parents adapt and lifestyles change, we want them to know we’ll be with them every step of the way.
SP: How do you stay on top of your customers’ needs?
LT: We love talking to our customers, so we’re very close with many of them. We see them at events, we see them online. One of the things we invest in is the time and energy to let them know we’re here and that we care. If someone messages us on our socials, we take the time to go through their concerns or questions. Whenever we do a mother and baby segment, we probably receive the most customer questions and direct messages. Moms don't know everything right away, so it’s common to have a lot of questions. We’re equipped and always ready to help as much as we can.
SP: What were the challenges and how did you overcome them?
LT: Number one is competition. There are so many brands out there and it's easy for moms to get lost in the choices. So one of the biggest challenges is how you stand out. We want customers to know us not just through our products, but through what we stand for.
One thing that sets us apart is our advocacies. Our largest campaigns aren’t just discounts and promos. Whenever we can, we incorporate something meaningful that gives back to communities.
One project we're truly proud of is the Drops of Hope Project. Our bottle washes are made with purified drinking water. And we thought, if we put purified drinking water in our products, how unfair is it that many Filipino families still don't have access to clean drinking water? From that simple idea, Drops of Hope was born. A portion of proceeds goes into building sustainable water filters for barangays and communities in need. We just finished our fifth water filter and we can't wait to keep going.
SP: How do you feel your business and advocacy are helping Filipino parents and children today? And what do you consider the best part of what you do?
LT: We always hear this from our moms, “Pag kailangan ko ng ganito, meron pala si Tiny Buds.” Those small worries and concerns that not many brands look at are the things we try to find solutions for. We call them our tiny remedies. Every product we release is thoughtful and comes from a real worry a parent may have. That’s why we have so many products and many more to come.
The best part of what I do is being able to empower moms and give them solutions so they don't have to stress. Parenting is already hard enough. Being there with a range of solutions for them gives me a lot of joy.
SP: Looking ahead, what are your hopes for Tiny Buds in the next five years or the next decade?
LT: I have a personal goal for Tiny Buds. One day, I want to meet a parent who says, "You know, when I was a kid, this is what my mom used on me." That speaks to the longevity I want for our family's brand. I don't want it to be an overnight success or, you know, “uso lang” for a few years. We want to be here for the long haul.
