Taking care of the environment does not mean you need to spend a lot of money. In the case of Tatay Gary Dabasol, he spent zero to plant 10,000 mangroves!
You have probably seen Tatay Gary's mangrove forest on your social media feed. It was posted by Dan Niez — he and Tatay Gary live in Hilongos in Matalom, Leyte. Dan said the mangroves are near a beach where residents often have picnics, and Tatay Gary's home is along the same coast.
Dan said he thought the mangroves were planted by the local government because, well, it was a lot. He was surprised to learn it was all Tatay Gary's handiwork.

Tatay Gary knew about mangrove-planting since childhood, but it wasn't until he experienced the devastating effects of Typhoon Yolanda in 2013 that made him pick up his childhood hobby once again.
How did he end up with 10,000 mangroves? Tatay Gary said with a smile, "Palagi akong nagtanim kaya umabot ng marami."

Yes, Tatay Gary planted every single seed after Typhoon Yolanda. Seven years later, Dan was so impressed by the greenery he saw that he had to find out how it happened.
And when Dan learned how Tatay Gary found the seeds for his mangrove forest without spending a single cent, Dan felt he had to let people know.
You have to hear the story in their own words because what Tatay Gary has accomplished on his own is incredible.
