  • TV host and actress Donita Rose says she has moved on completely from her separation with ex-husband Eric Villarama, which happened in 2016 after 12 years of marriage. The two share a son, Joshua Paul, or JP, now 14.

Pep.ph got to talk to Donita at the media conference for her cooking show entitled Heart Mate Kitchen Season 2 at the 17th Floor of GMA Network Center, Quezon City, on Wednesday, August 15.

When asked if she finds it difficult to start over, she answered: “Hugot-tanong yun? Yes.

"Well, I would say that it's difficult, but it's also exciting at the same time.

“My entire life, I’ve been dedicated to serving my family; not just my immediate family, my siblings.

“Siyempre, when I came back to the Philippines, di ba, naghiwalay nga ako, it was really the first time I really focused on myself.

"Like, having my own place na, you know, going back to working out, and just focusing on my son.

“So it was hard at first, but I think I’m fully recovered na.”

On whether she asked Eric for financial support for JP, she replied, “No. I just don’t want to hold any grudges.

"But the dad, just this year, has offered to help a little bit more [sa tuition].”

She has since let go of her anger, and is friends now with her ex-husband.

    “Oh, yeah, we’re friends na.

"Ang joke lang is, I always say na, ‘Pinatawad ko na yung hayop na iyan!’

"Pero joke lang yun. Joke lang yun.”

    Reconciliation highlight

Donita recounted on the February 13, 2018 episode of the ABS-CBN morning program Magandang Buhay how she caught Eric cheating.

She says she will not forget the incident because it was on Valentine's Day when she found out Eric was seeing another woman in the U.S.

These days, she can afford to laugh off the matter, as she has “Super, super [naka-move on].

“I would say that pinaka-highlight of the reconciliation was Valentine’s Day, this year.”

She says a lot of people saw her TV interview and many of them followed Eric on his social media accounts. This puzzled him so he gave Donita a call.

She told Eric that she has revealed in the interview the real reason for their split.

“Natandaan niya kasi noon na Valentine’s Day kami naghiwalay, noong nalaman niya na Valentine’s Day yung topic, alam na niya, alam na niya.

“Then he said, ‘You know, I just wanna say that I’m sorry.’

“It was the first time na nag-apologize siya.

"But prior to that, nagsulat ako ng letter para sa kanya, like, almost a year before.

“Even though I could blame him for everything, I wrote him a letter of apology and I said to him that, ‘I’m sorry for all of my shortcomings, ganun, ganun.’

“Pero nung binasa niya, hindi ko nagustuhan nung una yung response niya.

“It was, like, ‘Oo nga, e, parang it took a long time for me to forgive you.’

“So when I read it, sabi ko, ‘Bastos 'to! Parang ako pa yung nag-sorry 'tapos ikaw pa yung [galit].’

“But I let it go. Well, 'God, I let it in your timing. I wrote this letter to release myself of bitterness and forgiveness,' sabi ko, 'Naka-move on na rin ako from that but it took almost a year before he said sorry.'

“When he said sorry, siyempre medyo nakaraos na rin.

"And then he said, ‘Even though I have moved on in my life, there is not a day that goes by that I don’t regret hurting you.’

“So, naiyak naman ako nang kaunti. Nabola naman ako.

"You know, these are things, whether sincere or not, those words that are spoken are powerful.

“And they do something, they bring healing to the heart.”

Donita feels she's now ready to love again. “Bukas na [ang puso].”
