  • Every woman loves a little (or a lot of) romance. Who here didn't swoon when their then-boyfriends wrote them a long, handwritten love letter, or brought them to dinner at a nice restaurant for a special occasion? Who doesn't like a text message that says he's thinking of you, or a surprise visit just because he has this urgent longing to see you?

After that, love, takes on many forms. Some go the traditional route of marriage, while others choose to leave things as is. For a lot of couples, having kids is a significant step to fulfilling that love.

When the new member of the family — a tiny, fragile one, at that — arrives, does romance go out the window? Most will say yes — and no. Yes, because of course! The demands of caring for a child are like no other, and that leaves you no time or strength to carry on as you used to. No, because many wives will agree that having children has made them love their husbands even more for the most unlikely reasons.

We asked members of the Smart Parenting Village what non-romantic gestures by their husbands made them fall in love with them all over again, and here are some of the best answers we got.

“Hindi sya nag-aalinlangang ibigay yung chicken skin at tyan ng bangus sa akin, kahit na favorite din nya yun. Simpleng bagay pero malaki impact sa akin.” - Shenny Anne and Kevin King Fernes, 3 months married

“Pag alam nya na male-late na ako sa office ipagda-drive nya ako at ihahatid sa tapat ng building namin para umabot ako sa time-in ko.” - Nins and Candz Lopez, 7 years married

“I am 33 weeks pregnant sa first baby namin, hirap na ako magkikilos dahil medyo may kalakihan na yung tyan ko. Hirap na din ako maghilod ng katawan pag naliligo, specifically sa mga binti/paa ko. Super na-appreciate ko nung sinabi nya na sya na lang ang maghihilod ng mga paa ko pag maliligo ako. For me that small gesture is napaka-sweet.” - Lourivi and Mark Lapuz, 1 year married

“I am allergic to shelling shrimps (I can eat them fine, but my hands are really sensitive). Usually he’s the one who shells them for me. One night, my parents gave us ginataang shrimp for dinner. Since he goes to work before I arrive home (he’s night shift) I expected to just have food delivered. But when I arrived, a bowl of shelled out shrimps was waiting for me at the table.” - Aia and Gabriel Austria, 9 years together

“Nung sinabi kong kailangan ko magpadala ng pera sa family ko. I don't want to ask from him so I said gagamitin ko yung perang binigay niya sa akin. But he said, keep your money dahil may gusto ka ring bilhin. Ako na bahala padala sa family mo. Talaga namang blessed ako sa asawa ko.” - Sherry and Jam Nariz, 3 years married

“Boyfriend ko palang sya that time. We had no budget for a restaurant date so he offered to have a picnic at Nuvali and nagluto siya ng kung anong meron sa ref (bistek). Pero gabi na ako natapos sa work and the lights at Nuvali were off na. So we found a parking lot with lamp posts. “Nung makilala ko sya hiwalay ako at may isang anak. Para sa akin ang pinaka-sweet na gesture na ginawa nya ay nung tanungin nya ako, ‘Pwede bang ako na lang ang maging tatay ni Julia (my lovechild)?’ He loved my daughter like his own. At ngayon, we have our own son.” - Feorila Loria and Charles Aquino, 3 years together
