  • A lot of moms watch Korean dramas for the good vibes. We love escaping to a wonderful romantic-comedy or a lighthearted fantasy. But during some points in our lives, we just want to channel our frustrations or aggression elsewhere. Maybe it’s by sending Smart Parenting Confessions to Sara Palma on the Smart Parenting Village or the Smart Parenting forum, Parent Chat. Sometines it's by watching a murder mystery or a dark satire like Sky Castle. Another effective option: K-dramas centered on infidelity like The World of the Married.

The series made the blood of a lot of ladies boil in 2020 with its gripping take on cheating. The hit Korean remake of the BBC series, Doctor Foster, has been making noise online again. It’s mainly because of the upcoming Pinoy adaptation entitled, The Broken Marriage Vow, starring Jodi Sta. Maria. It promises to deliver a lot of “gigil to the next level” with its star-studded cast including Zanjoe Marudo and Sue Ramirez. It also aims to show how Filipino marriages differ from the other countries that remade the series (like France, India, Russia, and Turkey, aside from Korea and UK).

A lot of Pinoys are definitely excited for this, but for K-drama mamas, it’s worth reliving the epic feels we got from The World Of The Married. There are many times when the lead, Ji Sun Woo, and the other characters in the series were so relatable. Check out some of those things that only moms and wives can relate to below. If you haven’t watched it yet, here are all the things you can expect. Fair warning: possible spoilers ahead!

All The Feels Moms Can Relate To In The World Of The Married

“Women always know. They just know.”

A woman’s intuition is one of our superpowers. It may not kick in right away when you’re busy or when your partner is an expert at pretense. But at one point, your gut just tells you when he is already unfaithful.

For Dr. Ji Sun Woo, it started with a small suspicion. She followed her instincts and did a bit of investigation on her own. Eventually, she was able to confirm one of her worst fears. She turned out to be right, and at times like that, it’s an awful feeling to be right.

Sometimes, the deception feels worse than the betrayal itself.

Of course, getting cheated on hurts, but most of the time, the knowledge that you were fooled hurts your pride more. Sometimes, it’s easier to accept that your partner has found someone else he likes better. But what’s not acceptable is how he made you feel that you were the only one.

In the drama, I think that’s why the female doctor eventually decided to get revenge instead of just moving on. After she called out her husband for the adultery, he still denied it to death while continuing his affair. And as a woman who is smart and respected, it’s a blow to her ego how fooled she was by this loathsome man.

When you’re hurt, you 'want' to hurt others, too.

We can all strive to be the bigger person and walk out of situations like when your partner betrays you. But it’s natural to feel like you want others to actually feel your pain, too–especially your unfaithful partner and whoever else connived with him. Why should they be oblivious (or worse, happy) when you’re miserable, right?

That’s probably another reason why Dr. Ji Sun Woo was set on revenge–not just on her partner but the friends that were all in on the deception. She considered some of them her closest friends, but no true friends will let you be fooled like that. No decent person will let a married man have an affair and even go on a leisure trip with him and his mistress. (Eventually, the drama shows how far from decent everyone is, too.)

It’s not the end of the world when your partner leaves you.

Of course, it’s heartbreaking to lose the person you trust most and one you vowed to grow old with. But if he’s a good-for-nothing that cheats on you, you’re better off without him. You have your child and yourself–those are worth protecting.

We see how the lead character tries to turn the table on her husband in the show when she does whatever she can to preserve her dignity. Her main goals were keeping her reputation and career intact, making sure she retains the house she worked hard on, and protecting her child from all the drama.

It’s game over when it’s your child that’s hurt.

When a married couple with a child breaks up, the child unfortunately gets caught in the process. Whether it’s an amicable separation or a turbulent one like in the drama, children always suffer. They could get bullied by others, feel burdened when the parents fight, or blame themselves. And when the couple sees this, that’s often their wakeup call to stop staying in the toxic relationship or stop hurting each other and finally be more civil for the sake of the child

A lot of readers can definitely relate to this, especially those moms who share their #SPConfessions with us. Even though The World of The Married has bizarre plot twists and crazy characters, it shows a lot of raw and relatable emotions that anyone could empathize with.

If you haven’t yet, catch the full episodes on Viu or Netflix.
