What if your mother-in-law doesn't like you? What if she STILL favors your husband's ex-girlfriend? What if your mom-in-law is overstepping her bounds and is becoming too controlling?
These three are common issues wives have about their MIL (mother-in-law in case anyone needs clarification), and celebrity mom Neri Miranda, who has never been afraid to voice her opinions, gave her point of view after she received messages about it through her Instagram.
On her Instagram Stories, Neri replied to this question — "Paano kung ayaw sa'yo ng biyenan mo?" — with a reminder about kindness and the people you need to prioritize. "Maging mabuting asawa at ina ka sa husband mo. Maging mabuting tao. Kung di ka gusto kahit mabuti ka sa lahat lalo na sa kanila, wala sa 'yo ang problema," Neri shared. "Basta ang focus mo ay ang asawa at anak mo at syempre ang sarili mo. Dahil kayo ang magkakakampi," she added.
Kindness has been a recurring theme in Neri's answers when it comes to relationships. She has emphasized in the past that being nice can make a far greater impact on people. "Alas ng tao ang pagiging mabait. Malayo ang mararating mo kapag mabait sa kapwa tao mo," Neri wrote in her blog.
When asked by a follower what Neri would do with a meddling in-law, Chito Miranda's wife replied that she had heard of "horror stories about biyenan," but she was glad her in-laws were not the type to interfere. But, she continued, "Kung mangyare 'yan sa akin, papaakinggan ko yung magagandang advice niya sa akin at susundin ko."
Neri does advise to set boundaries. Neri explained that while she chooses to listen to other people's advice, even from parents or in-laws, the final decision is still hers alone or her and her husbands to take. "Kapag OA [overacting] na kung ano ano ang pinapagawa, hindi ko susundin kasi alam ko naman kung ano ang makakabuti sa anak at asawa ko. Kung magalit siya, problema na niya yun," she said.
Neri's patient ways showed when a follower asked what she would do if her mother-in-law uploaded a photo of her husband's ex-girlfriend on her Facebook, and the MIL post praised the ex-girlfriend's beauty.
Neri answered, "Sus, mag-post lang sila. Ano naman ang magagawa ng pagpo-post nun? Para asarin ako? Haha! Tatawanan ko lang yun kapag nagkataon." She jokingly added to comment on the photo that they are both pretty.
"The most important lesson I've learned over the past year is don't let anybody make you cruel. No matter how badly you want to give the world its own bitter medicine, it's never worth losing yourself," the celebrity mom wrote.
