“Alam mo ang sabi ng pastor namin, eto totoo ‘to ha? Sa mag-asawa, kailangan, at least, 4 times a week,” Ogie Alcasid gamely reveals during a conversation with members of the entertainment media on September 13.
The Ultimate Singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid recently spoke to the entertainment media regarding his new show titled, “Ogieoke, The Concert,” taking place on September 29 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater. Among the questions asked during the press conference was about his sex life with his wife, singer Regine Velasquez.
“Mahirap ‘yon,” Ogie admits after revealing the advice. “Pero I guess, ine-emphasize lang siguro ng pastor namin na kailangan siya (sex), kailangan siya sa pag-aasawa.”
When asked if they can follow the 4x a week recommendation, Ogie said, “Feeling ko, hindi. Kasi, alam mo ba, alas-nueve, tulog na ako?”
Furthermore, Ogie revealed that he is a morning person and early riser while Regine is more of a night owl, which makes it challenging for them to meet the 4 times a week recommendation.
We asked this same question in the Smart Parenting Village, our private Facebook group of over 100,000 parents some time ago, and out of the more than 1,000 moms and dads who responded:
Thirty-eight percent (480 members) answered that they have sex with their spouses 1-2 times a week.
Sixteen percent (199 members) answered that they are having sex 1-2 times a month.
A good 4 percent (51 parents) admit to having sex “every day!”
Smart Parenting Board of Experts Dr. Rica Cruz, a licensed psychologist, sex and relationships therapist, and sex educator has this to say when asked regarding how much sex is considered normal or healthy for married couples:
“It depends on the people involved in the relationship. In my study on sexual and relationship satisfaction, I found out that our stats here [in the Philippines] validate the stats globally–basically, once a week of sex is associated with having a satisfying relationship.”
Dr. Rica has a caveat. “But it should be good sex. You can have sex thrice a week, but if only one of you is enjoying it, then it can be detrimental to the relationship.”
