Husband Surprises Wife With Dream Wedding: 'I Want Her To Feel Loved Beyond Words'They had financial struggles when they first got married, but he made a vow to make it up to her.by Kitty Elicay .
When Jonathan Indino, 36, and his wife, Marlyn, 33, got married in January 2010, they chose to have a simple wedding.
“We have always been practical — we believed that our companionship, food trips, and dates were more important than any ring or conventional show of affection through material things,” Jonathan shares in an interview with SmartParenting.com.ph.
He admits, though, that it was also because they were struggling financially. “I did not propose to her, I did not buy her an engagement ring. I could not afford any of those things,” he says.

“This was our way to adjust to the reality that money did not come by that easy and that if it did come by, it was [also] gone easily,” he adds.
In the 10 years that they have been together, they were blessed with three children: Dion, 7; Bgirl, 5; and Chase, 1. Their financial status also became more stable, as Jonathan, who is also a pastor, chose to apply for a BPO job in Davao to support his family.
“With each [kid] came a promotion, a new job offer, a better salary, and just a lifting of our financial shortcomings,” Jonathan shares. Then, in 2018, Jonathan founded a small BPO company named ND-Know Solutions. “We got to a place where bucket lists were not dreams, but just things you had to prepare for and you could get it,” he adds.
"I would not leave this plane without making Marlyn feel that she was loved by me beyond just mere words."

As their lives became more comfortable, Jonathan wished to honor Marlyn with the wedding he knew she wanted but could not afford before. Whenever she chanced upon romantic wedding videos on social media, Jonathan would notice that Marlyn would turn wistful — “She never voiced it out loud, but I could see how touched she was with it all,” Jonathan says.
Jonathan hatched a plan: he would surprise Marlyn with her dream wedding — a renewal of vows — on their 10-year-anniversary. The desire was fueled in part because Jonathan was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2015 and was hospitalized several times because of his illness.
“I started feeling my mortality,” Jonathan admits. “But I would not leave this plane without making Marlyn feel that she was loved by me beyond just mere words.”
Thankfully, he already knew some people who could turn his vision into reality.
“I got involved with the Casa de Fotografia team when I officiated a beach wedding for a foreign couple. I was impressed by their team, the coordination, and the synergy of each of their members. I thought, if I ever were to do a renewal of vows, I would ask them to cover it for me.”ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW

“Nag-agree ako pero hindi ko masyadong sineryoso kasi wala rin siyang follow-up,” Diane recalls with a laugh in an interview with Smart Parenting. “’Nung malapit nang mag-New Year, kinumusta ko siya at nag-follow up siya dun sa plan niya.”
Realizing that she had to make Jonathan’s vision happen, Diane started planning and booking all the suppliers. In just 16 days, she completed her team.
There was only one problem: they needed Marlyn’s measurements to have a wedding gown made. So, Jonathan decided to have a prenuptial shoot to get his wife’s dress size. It was the perfect excuse — they might not have had their dream wedding, but they could still have a romantic shoot to mark their marriage.
During the photoshoot, Jonathan forgot to take his medicine to manage his sugar levels and almost collapsed from being under the sun for too long. “This made it real for me and the team,” he recalls. The wedding really had to happen now.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
A decade of love
For their wedding, Jonathan chose a special venue: Pacific Little Secret in Samal, Davao del Norte, which was the first resort he and Marlyn visited after giving birth to their firstborn.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
With the dress and location secured, Jonathan started contacting the guests for their intimate nuptials. “I flew my parents back from Indonesia (Jonathan’s mother is Indonesian and his dad is a Pinoy missionary in the country) and got her mother and siblings from Agusan del Sur into the city without her knowledge,” he shares.
The night before January 16, their wedding anniversary, Jonathan and Marlyn booked a hotel. “She was a bit disappointed that I did not prepare anything but she started making plans of her own, booking a restaurant, planning to go to a beach, etc.”
Jonathan seized the opportunity and suggested they go on a day trip to Pacific Little Secret (even though the resort does not offer a day trip package). Marlyn agreed and made arrangements for dinner at a restaurant.
On the day of their anniversary, Marlyn and Jonathan boarded a boat to the island. Little did Marlyn know that her guests were all in the resort, hiding. At the dock, their kids came to greet them, and Marlyn saw the cameras and drones focused on her. She thought Jonathan had planned another shoot, so she gamely went with the organizers to have her makeup done.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
While Marlyn was getting ready, the guests made their way to the ceremony area. She still had no idea that their closest friends and family were all there, including the original entourage at their first wedding. Even when she saw the wedding gown, she still did not realize what was going on. “Tinanong ko ‘yung coordinator while nag-me-makeup and sabi niya lang na magpictorial kami,” she tells Smart Parenting.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
A dream come true
Marlyn confesses to Smart Parenting that she had always dreamed of having a beach wedding. So when the curtains were drawn and she saw the guests and her husband waiting for her at the end of the aisle, she could not help but become emotional.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
“Until now, ‘di pa mag-sink in ang mga nangyari. Sobra pa sa na-surprise! ‘Di ko ma-express ‘yung saya na naexperience ko,” Marlyn says. “Sobrang blessed ako sa husband and family ko.”
“This event showed me na talagang may natitira pang lalaki sa mundong ito na ganito ka-romantiko at ganito ka-mapagmahal sa asawa,” she adds.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
