  • Over 18,000 job vacancies nationwide will be up for grabs in the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) online May 1 Labor Fair.

“Ang pamahalaan at bawat sektor, setting aside our differences, (are) focusing on bringing back employment and creating more productive opportunities as we safely reopen the economy where businesses thrive and no Filipino worker is left behind,” said a joint statement by an inter-agency technical working group on national economic recovery or NERS TWG.

The three-day online affair is part of government efforts to match job seekers with employers despite mobility limitations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2021 National Online Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK) Job and Business Fair features 488 employers to date.

The Labor Department’s regional offices have partnered with job platforms such as Jobstreet, Mynimo, jobquest, Vantage.com, Hotjobs, Zoom, and Workbank for this project.

For employers or companies, meanwhile, their representative will have to approach their regional DOLE office for registration.

Participation in the job fair is free of charge and is part of government efforts to revive the economy.

DOLE records show that 18,254 open job positions are so far open available in 488 prospective employers. The biggest number of job vacancies at 4,258 positions can be found in the Calamba-Laguna-Rizal-Quezon (CALABARZON) regions. There is also a high demand for workers in Regions X, XI, and III.

The top job vacancies are for production operators; customer service representatives; sales representatives and drivers; cashiers and baggers; and masons and carpenters. Most of the vacancies are from the following industries – manufacturing, business process outsourcing, service, retail, and construction.

The latest Labor Force Survey showed that more Filipinos were jobless in February (4.2 million) compared to January (4 million).

“Iyong lockdown na sinasabi natin at nag-ECQ tayo muli dito sa NCR Plus bubble, so it really affected workers,” acknowledged Labor Assistant Secretary Dominique Rubia-Tutay in a press briefing today.

She noted, though, that some 1.9 million Filipinos were able to regain employment from January to February.

“So that’s really a good sign na talagang nagri-recover tayo,” she said.
