Your SSS Maternity Benefits Can Be Sent Straight To Your Bank Account. Here's HowYou don't need to leave the house!by Kitty Elicay .
The Social Security System (SSS) Maternity Benefit is a big help to many pregnant women, especially those who are expecting in the middle of a pandemic. However, the agency saw a slight decrease in total beneficiaries last year as members were hesitant to visit government offices during the lockdowns.
“Since the community quarantine affected the transacting public wanting to visit government offices and the fact that pregnant women are considered high-risk individuals during this pandemic, pregnant and even lactating mothers who are SSS members chose to stay at home and postponed their appointments,” shared SSS President Aurora C. Ignacio in a press release.
Still, there’s a way to apply for your SSS maternity benefit and get the disbursement without leaving the house. You just need to apply online.
How to apply for your SSS Maternity Benefits online
The SSS Maternity benefit is a cash allowance for qualified female members. To avail, you must have paid at least three (3) monthly contributions within the 12-month period immediately preceding the semester of your childbirth, miscarriage, or emergency termination of pregnancy. The first step is to notify your employer and SSS about your pregnancy. Employers may submit the Maternity Notification of their employees through their My.SSS account.CONTINUE READING BELOWRecommended Videos
For self-employed, voluntary and OFW members, they may submit their Maternity Notifications through the My.SSS facility in the SSS website or the SSS Mobile App.
To get the benefits straight to your bank account, you must enroll a valid disbursement account using the Disbursement Account Enrollment Module (DAEM) found in the E-Services menu of the My.SSS website. Once approved, all benefit proceeds will be deposited directly to the bank account.
In 2020, the agency reported releasing P10.49 billion in maternity benefits, with some 290,000 female members as beneficiaries. This was partly due to the additional maternity disbursements following the implementation of Republic Act 11210 or the 105-Day Expanded Maternity Leave Law.
“Since the allowed maternity leave was extended up to 105 days, it is expected that the benefit releases will also dramatically increase. Based on our data, the average annual disbursements in 2016 or three years before implementing the law is at P6.16 billion. Now that it has been implemented since March 11, 2019, the average annual release is now pegged at P10.45 billion,” Ignacio said.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
The agency is expecting a higher number of benefit applications this year, following last year’s postponed appointments and limited number of transactions processed.
