One-year-old baby is youngest HIV patient in Cagayan Valley
The baby is the latest addition to the 88 recorded cases of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) in Cagayan Valley. The child reportedly acquired the virus from her mother who was infected while pregnant. HIV transmission from mother to child during pregnancy, labor, delivery, or breastfeeding is called perinatal transmission. It is the most common way children are infected with HIV. In 2015, the World Health Organization tagged the Philippines as the country with the fastest growing HIV epidemic in the world. The number of new cases recorded daily has risen from 17 in 2014 to 21 in 2015, and most HIV/AIDS patients acquired the disease from unsafe sexual intercourse. (rappler.com)

Banks must accept folded, stapled checks -PCHC
The Philippine Clearing House Corp. (PCHC) clarified that banks must take folded or stapled checks as long as important details are still visible. "PCHC specifically states that checks, which are folded or have staple holes, should be accepted by banks as long as the image and the information on the check are still clearly visible upon unfolding or inspection," the PCHC said in a statement. The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) had recently set a January 20, 2017 deadline for local banks to shift to the "Check Imaging Clearing Systems" (CICS), which is regulated by the PCHC, to shorten the turnaround time for funds to be credited. The PCHC also said the following are not valid reasons for banks to refuse checks. "Checks without the world 'only' after the amount is written on the check, with empty spaces not ruled out, or information not written in dark-colored ink should not be reasons for non-acceptance by banks." There is also no standard format for writing the date.
Katherine Heigl gets real about post-baby bodyADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOWADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Hollywood actress Katherine Heigl, formerly of Grey's Anatomy and known for being outspoken, is not shying away from answering questions about her pregnancy (she gave birth late last year to her first son, Joshua Bishop). "My boobs just got so ginormous. It was horrifying," she told People.com. Katherine added she went from a ‘double D’ to an ‘I’ bra size. "Did you know that an ‘I’ even existed in bra size? I didn't. I didn't know that until I had to buy bra sizes in an 'I.' That's D, E, F, G, H… I." Katherine knew the upside of having big boobs was being able to breastfeed, which helped her lose a lot of the pregnancy weight (she gained 40 pounds!). But she says she's not in a hurry to get back in shape. "I still have a good 20 to lose, but I’m not going back on camera as an actor for quite some time, and I can take my time and do this healthy, and do this slow, and do it kindly to myself and not beat myself up about it," she said. "I’m so grateful for my body right now because I feel like it’s doing what it needs to do." The Knocked Up star and her husband, musician Josh Kelly, are already parents to their adoptive daughters Naleigh, 8, and Adalaide, 4. (people.com)
Recall Alert: IKEA folding chairsADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
The Swedish furniture giant has recalled some 33,400 "Mysingö" beach chairs because they "can collapse, posing fall and fingertip amputation hazards," according to the joint statement from Ikea and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The CPSC reported the chairs have already caused injury to 13 people and there has been six fingertip amputations. The problem? "After washing the fabric seat, it is possible to re-assemble the chair incorrectly leading to risks of falls or finger entrapments," Ikea said in a statement. Ikea sold these foldable chairs with wood base and a Fabrice seat between February 2013 and December 2016. Consumers should return their Mysingö beach chairs for a full refund.
