Ever since my child was born, he has been the .chosen one. to hang the first ornament on our Christmas tree, shares Sherry Gonzales-Apolinario, mom to Aisaac. While your baby can’t fully participate in the festivities just yet, this doesn’t mean you can’t include him in the celebration.

Include your child in Christmas traditions.
It’s really the idea of your child doing things to contribute to the tradition, explains Raffy Reloza, child psychologist and chairperson of the College of Education at Miriam College in Quezon City. Continue the ritual every year and preserve the moment through pictures or videos. The child, let’s say at age 6, will look back and say, “Is that me, putting the ball on the tree?” It becomes something he will look forward to every Christmas season, Reloza continues.

Some activities your child can take part in:
A one-year-old can join in the fun, but only with your devoted guidance. While you can.t expect much, including him in the family activities.

    • Setting up the tree
    • Preparing the Noche Buena,
    • Visiting his grandparents on Christmas Day

The objective is to start a tradition with everyone in your family, and for it to become an unforgettable experience, especially for your youngest family member, Reloza stresses.
