Ordinary food items turn into monster munchies with a little creative presentation and a lot of imagination.
Play a game of Witches Cookbook! Set up snacks buffet style, then set down smaller bowls containing samples from each of the snack items. Have kids close their eyes and touch the sample in each bowl, while you describe each item as a spooky ingredient for a monster meal. “This is the witch’s hair” for cold spaghetti, for example, or “Be careful not to squish the giant’s eyeballs” for soft-boiled eggs. To come up with more eerie options, ask yourself, “What else could this carrot stick, pudding, or party punch be to a child?”
Want snack options that have a Halloween theme but still look, well, edible? Decorate cakes and cookies with ghosts or Jack O’ Lanterns made from icing. Or try this kiddie favorite: use a Halloween-themed cookie cutter on cookies, then use the same cookie cutter on ice cream. Sandwich the ice cream between the 2 cookies, wrap in cellophane, freeze, and voila! I-Scream Sandwich your kids will go crazy for!
