A famous saying goes to say that you should marry your best friend if you want to be happy. In Aga Muhlach and Charlene Gonzalez's whirlwind romance, they grew together as best friends during their marriage.
Last May 2019, the couple marked their 18th wedding anniversary. Aga and Charlene are two of the most enduring couples in showbiz, and that's not easy. And yet, they have managed to stay and even grow more in love with each other every day.
Keeping a private lifestyle since they got hitched may have helped them. Still, Aga and Charlene have been vocal about their love for each other on social media during anniversaries and birthday. The actor has also been vocal about his commitment to his family every during interviews and press conferences.
On GMA's Tonight with Arnold Clavio, Aga described how he feels about his wife, and it could very well be the secret to their lasting and still growing marriage.
"Kasama ko talaga ang asawa ko sa lahat. Basta 'pag nawala siya sa tabi mo, 'yung asawa mo, parang hindi ka mapakali," Aga told host Arnold Clavio. "Hindi kumpleto?" Clavio asked. "Hindi talaga, parang hindi talaga," he confirmed.
"Wala na akong barkada, wala akong mga gano'n. I have friends but my wife is my best friend, siya 'yung kasama ko," the actor stressed. The only times he and Charlene are apart are when he rides his bike and plays golf. Even then, they always meet up right after his solo endeavors.
Aga had previously admitted he's still always "dying to come home" to Charlene every time they spend time apart.
Aga also revealed how much time he and Charlene talking for more than the 18 years they've been husband and wife. If he's late to a shoot or press conference, "it's because every time I wake up every day, 'yung coffee time namin is three hours, four hours, kuwentuhan lang," he revealed.
They talk every time they're together, not just in the morning, but even over lunch and before going to bed. "We dream together, we cry together, we laugh together, we travel a lot together," Aga proudly declares. "I say this with all honesty, it's just that," he said.
It's not their anniversary, and there is no occasion, but when Clavio asked if Aga had a message for his wife, the actor thanked Charlene for her unconditional love and for being just being herself.
"Nagpapasalamat lang ako sa asawa ko for her just true, gentle heart, for the real care that she has shown me, and that she continues to show me and my kids," Aga said. "Thank you for being my bestest, and my partner — man, I just want to thank you for you. Ikaw lang, okay na 'yon. 'Yun na 'yun," he added.
Aga also thanked God for giving him Charlene to be his wife. "I'm glad that I was able to embrace that marriage with her," he added.
