Ang TV's Guila Alvarez Is A Working Mom With Four Kids All Under The Age of 10Guila has been holding a corporate job for the last 12 years.by Jocelyn Valle .
Those who grew up in the 1990s will remember Guila Alvarez from the hit youth-oriented gag show of that era, Ang TV. Today, Guila has been married to Pinggoy Bautista, the secretary of the Asian Flying Disc Association, for 11 years. They have four kids: Talee, 9; Elli, 6; Milo, 5; and Pablo, 3.
“A very steady couple” is how Guila describes herself and her husband to SmartParenting.com.ph in an email interview. “We’re not the by-the-book kind of parents. We just work with what we have and know and what we think is right or wrong.”
Having four kids means dealing with four unique individuals. “They’re all different,” she explained. “The challenge is actually how to work around them when talking or making them understand something. Because each child is different. They have their own personalities.

“One method may work with one child but not necessarily work on the other. So we try to find ways to make them know or realize things. Giving examples that they can relate to works most of the time.”
Guila and her husband Pinggoy have created the Facebook page, BauHaus Family, where they post photos of them and their activities together. Their favorite activities have something to do with “outdoor stuff,” she said. “Anything to keep us out of the house, play, sweat, get dirty, drive, beach, camp...name it — we’re game!”
Guila has been working at Shell Philippines for nearly 12 years. She manages, as she explained to us, “the calendars of the GM and finance manager and do finance stuff.” So she has the time management thing pat-down. Working to balance work and family means “putting everything in the calendar.” After waking up in the morning, she makes it a point to check it and see what she needs to do for the day.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Her tip for her fellow working moms on time management? “Once you get the hang of it, you will see that there’s a lot of time in between work and family to give yourself. Use it in the best way you could because it’s the only ‘ME’ time you have.”ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Occasionally, Guila reconnects with showbiz. Last September 2019, for instance, she attended the gala screening of the digitally restored and remastered version of Ang TV’s movie spinoff, Ang TV: The Adarna Adventure, at the Power Plant Cinema in Rockwell Center, Makati City. She came with her husband and four kids.
“It was nice to have one movie that I can make them watch finally,” she said of her kids. “I loved that they enjoyed the movie, they get the humor, and they were laughing out loud, especially because of Paolo [Contis].”
Before that screening, Guila said that she hardly talked about her showbiz life at home. It’s when she’s out with her family, and an Ang TV fan approaches her that her kids get a glimpse of her celebrity persona. But, she noted, it’s “no biggie” to them.
“They don’t really ask about it,” she added. “But they can sometimes compare it. Like if something comes out on TV and they say, ‘like how you were before, mommy?’ that’s it!”ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Earlier in May, Guila returned to the big screen after 23 years of absence to play a supporting role in Kuwaresma, an Erik Matti horror flick starring Sharon Cuneta. She said she’s open to making more movies if “there are offers, and the story is good.”
