It was in May 2020 when Assunta De Rossi, 37, revealed that she was finally pregnant with her first child. "I know, shocking!" Assunta wrote on Instagram.
"Getting pregnant the natural way with myoma and endometriosis (which I both have) is extremely difficult."
Assunta and husband of 19 years, Jules Ledesma, have been trying to conceive for years and have gone through a variety of treatments for her to get pregnant.
But for the couple, Assunta's pregnancy came when they least expected it. In a recent interview with Toni Gonzaga on her online show I Feel U, the new mom shared the struggles they went through over the years, "We were trying for so many years na, parang sabi ko nahihirapan na ako. So many things happened na also tapos with all the stress and kung ano man, we sought fertility treatments nung mga 2016. We decided na to go the scientific route, mag-in vitro na lang kami. Mutual decision naman iyon. Hindi nag-succeed yung first time."
She added that in 2020, they had decided to undergo in vitro fertilization for a second time, but their plans were put on hold because of the pandemic:
"Nalungkot talaga ako doon pero normal daw 'yon. Hindi lahat nakukuha the first time. Sabi ko, sige balik trabaho na lang muna ako para mawala lang yung lungkot. Last year, nag-decide ako na I think it's time.
Nag-usap kami, 'Gusto mo ba i-consider mag-abroad tayo, just in case?' Kasi meron pa akong embryos sa freezer e. Sabi niya, okay lang. Sabi ko, 'Gusto mo mag-Singapore tayo, Taiwan, or US.' Kaso nagka-COVID."

After realizing her period had been delayed for a week, she went for a doctor's checkup and found out the surprise of their life: Assunta was finally pregnant.
"Nag-Amanpulo kami nung 37th birthday ko. Pagbalik namin, a week later, nagpa-check up ako kasi nga delayed ako. Na-confirm that I was pregnant.
Talagang nagulat kaming mag-asawa. Inannounce ko sa family ko, pati sila nagulat din naman. It was a pleasant surprise. It was unplanned but not naman unwanted kasi it's been a long time din talaga. Ano bang nagawa ko at nangyari ito? But I am so thankful," she shared.
Assunta and Jules' baby girl was born on October 23, 2020, and they named her named Giulia Fiorentina Alessandra—each name in tribute to special family members of the couple. Now, Assunta is adjusting to the life of a new mom: being sleep deprived but cherishing each moment with her miracle baby.
