Bill Seeking 120 Days Maternity Leave Reaches Senate PlenaryIf this bill gets enacted into law, 30 of the 120 days are transferrable to other caregivers such as the spouse or common-law partner.by Rachel Perez .
Bill for 120-day Maternity Leave reaches senate plenary
Senate Bill 1305, or the Expanded Maternity Leave Law, seeks to increase the number of paid maternity leave from the current 60 days to 120 days, and an additional 30 days for solo working mothers. Senator Risa Hontiveros, who is a co-sponsor of the bill and chair of both the Senate committees on health and women, said the proposed law also responds to the pre- and post-natal health needs of working women. Under the bill, 30 of the 120 days are transferrable to other caregivers such as the spouse, common-law partner, and relative up to the 4th degree of consanguinity. It also includes adoptive parents. "This bill is revolutionary. It will not only give due recognition to women's reproductive rights, it will also push for an equal distribution of child care among Filipino families by recognizing the role of fathers, adoptive parents, and alternate caregivers," she said. Hontiveros noted that it's high time to update the maternity leave for working women -- the last time the number of days was increased was 25 years ago. The International Labor Organization's convention NO. 183 also mandates a minimum 98 days maternity leave. Similar bills are currently under deliberation in the Lower House. (gmanetwork.com)

Kylie shared that she's had so many cravings, a different one every day, and sometimes Aljur gets the pregnancy symptoms, too. (pep.ph)ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
WATCH: Valerie "Bangs" Garcia and Lloydi Birchmore's wedding video
The couple has said "I do" three times: in a civil ceremony last year in London, where the groom is based, and at two wedding ceremonies held at the church and on the beach in Boracay (the island is where they first met and got engaged). In tears, Bangs said in her vows, "I remember the day I told you, 'I really hope we will work out.' And you said, 'No, baby, don't hope. We will work out, I know.' You've always given me assurance and sincerity ever since. That's why I promise to always trust you and I'll be your forever loyal wing... I will permanently fasten my wing to your wing so together as a couple we could soar higher for eternity." Lloydi responded by saying he was lucky to have found his soulmate in Bangs even if he lives halfway around the world. "You're the one who always keeps me smiling, makes me happy... I would love you and have faith in your love for me. From this day forward, I devote myself entirely to you. I vow we not only grow old together, but we grow together as a couple," he said. There's a new Gerber Baby!ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
The baby food brand recently announced the winner of its annual Gerber Baby Photo Search. Seven-month-old Riley Shines from Ohio was picked from over 110,000 other babies vying for the title. He will not replace the famous Gerber Baby in its iconic logo but will appear in a 2017 Gerber ad. As the Gerber "spokesbaby" of the year, Riley will get amazing perks. He and his parents Kristen and Devin will receive $50,000 cash prize and $1,500-worth of Gerber childrens' wear. Devin originally thought winning was impossible and even laughed at Kristen for just entering the contest. "Now, we have the opportunity to start a college fund for our beautiful baby boy," she added. The annual Gerber Baby Photo Search contest, which began in 2010, pays tribute to Ann Turner Cook, whose face has appeared on the brand’s iconic logo since 1928. Turner recently celebrated her 90th birthday. (huffingtonpost.com)
Zooey Deschanel is pregnant with baby no. 2!ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
The New Girl star is expecting a baby for the second time around with husband Jacob Pechenik. Zooey was spotted sporting a baby bump while filming her TV series, according to Too Fab, which first broke the news citing sources close to the production of New Girl. The couple surprised everyone in August 2015 when they welcomed their first child, daughter Elise Otter, now 18 months old, and that they had secretly tied the knot in June 2015. When she was first pregnant, Zooey struggled with food. "You can't have sushi. You can't have cheese that tastes good," she said during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! "You can have a little bit [of coffee], but I would have, like, four cups a day. And now I can have a half cup, which is a joke! It's a total joke!" she said. In one of her interviews after giving birth, Zooey admitted that being a parent was tiring -- particularly, she said they were sleep-deprived -- but very fulfilling. Congratulations!
