Job security and providing for his family were foremost on Billy’s mind. “[I was] planning to sell everything and gonna move out of this country.
“And feels... wala, e, I didn’t have a job. You know what I’m saying? And if I did, it wasn’t really sustainable. I couldn’t sustain my family. It was a lot of depressing moments.”
Billy, who joined ABS-CBN in 2008 and left in 2020, made the revelation during Luchi Cruz-Valdes’ program, Uspang Real Life, on TV 5 on December 12, 2020.
Billy said, “it was really a dark period” for everyone working at ABS-CBN when the franchise was not renewed. But he couldn’t show it much at the time because Coleen was pregnant. “I couldn’t stress her out. It was hard.”

Coleen gave birth to Amari on September 10, two months after the franchise application was junked by Congress. On September 29, TV5 confirmed Billy signed a contract to host Masked Singer Pilipinas on its station.
With a growing family, Billy admits job loss was on his mind each night. “I’m not gonna lie, there are a lot of nights that I cried. There are a lot of nights that I called most of my friends at ABS.”
Three days before news of his TV5 contract came out, Billy had a heart-to-heart talk with Vice Ganda, and the two cried when Billy said his goodbyes to his ABS-CBN colleagues, with whom Billy is still in touch.
“Lahat kami magkakaibigan, magkakapamilya talaga kami. Yung mga ibang tao lang naman talaga ang nagbibigay kulay.”
Billy now also hosts the noontime show, Lunch Out Loud, and he says he has a new show coming out after the season finale of Masked Singer Philippines.
“Pero right now, I’m just really thankful that I have a job. I’m really thankful that I really did what I love to do at my age.
