  • It's been three years since Ciara Sotto and her husband Joe Oconer went their separate ways.

Their son Crixus was barely a year old when they broke up, but Ciara says all is well with her now.

PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) spoke to the actress-host at the press launch of tvN Asia's One Night Food Trip International Edition 2 last June 22 at the City of Dreams in Parañaque City.

Ciara said, “I’m happy, lalo na ngayon may project kami ni Danica [Sotto] na ganito. It’s been really good. Life’s been good and I’m very thankful to God for that. I’m very happy with the way Crixus is growing-up. You know, I’m just at peace with my life right now."

Is it safe to assume that she's happier now as a single woman?

“For me, yes, of course,” she confirmed. “Pero ganun naman talaga ang marriage. Meron kayong pagdadaanan na mahirap."

She continued, "But then again, kapag hindi mo na talaga kaya and you think you’re compromising your own self, your own happiness, [if] it’s not making you a better person anymore, and you’re not happy with yourself anymore...

“And I have zero tolerance for cheating. So, I think it’s time to let go.”

Ciara revealed that it was she who filed the case to anull their marriage.

"Ako ang nag-file, kasi sino pa ba magpa-file? Pero kasi, feeling ko rin, habang maliit si Crixus, mas madali for the kid."

"Kesa paglaki pa niya, mas marami na siyang tanong. 'Bakit ka nagpupunta sa court?'

"It would be easier for him. Yung anak ko rin ang iniisip ko.”

Actress Valeen Montenegro was rumored to be the third party that caused the couple's break-up. But Valeen was quoted as saying that she merely figured into the controversy between Ciara and Joe, but she had nothing to do with it.

When asked to comment on Valeen's recent interview, Ciara refused to give a direct reply. “Actually, if that’s her version of the truth, I cannot comment on that. Pero ako kasi, takot akong magsinungaling. Liars go to hell, di ba?”

Was a third party the cause of their break-up? Ciara replied, “Yes, yes, but it’s not just because of that. Marami na kasing...pero yun talaga ang nag-trigger. So, for me, that’s enough. I feel very disrespected. Matagal na yun and nagpa-file na kami ng annulment ngayon.”

She revealed that it wasn't easy to move on after her failed marriage.

“Hindi madali. Siguro for one year, masakit pa, fresh pa. But then again, for me, makikita mo support system ng family ko, yung anak ko. He’s such a joy to be with.

“So, parang mas naging madali. And number one talaga is God. God really gave me the strength.”

She also mentioned that while she and her ex-husband are estranged, they are civil towards each other. And Joe maintains a good relationship with their son.

She added, “I cannot say we’re friends or super friends, it’s hard to say because, you know, friends really run to each other for anything. But, civil kami ngayon. Especially for my son, I think it’s important na civil kami. Kasi, it’s important for him to have a relationship with his dad also. Every week naman nagkikita sila.”

Ciara who had her 3-year-old son in tow at the press launch of One Night Food Trip, says of her son, “He is good, he loves his dad naman. Excited naman siya to see him.”
