  • With the rising cost of, well, everything from fuel to groceries and more, it shouldn't be surprising that the cost of having a baby will be high. But it didn't sink in for one soon-to-be Pinoy dad until he and his wife went on a trip to the mall — and he gifted us with this priceless video.

Jonas Gabriel Pangan, a 27-year-old media specialist with a broadcasting company, didn't need any words to convey his shock at the prices of baby items — his facial expressions said it all! And the choice of songs nailed his state of, er, emotions. We heard Gary Valenciano's song "Wag ka nang Umiyak," and Manny Pacquiao's "Para Sa'yo (Ang Laban Na'To)" during the one-minute video.

    Watch the short video below.

On Facebook, Jonas's video has racked up 2.1 million views, over 31,000 reactions, and more than 28,000 shares— and still counting.

Speaking with SmartParenting.com.ph, Jonas revealed that the video was taken the first time he and his wife, Catherine, went window shopping for their soon-to-arrive little bundle of joy. (Catherine is six months pregnant with their first baby, a girl, whom they have chosen to name Sinag Jemimah.)

"Nagulat lang talaga ko sa price nung ibang items, kahit 'ung mga naka-sale na," Jonas recalled in an interview via Facebook Messenger. He added that he had an idea that baby essentials were not cheap, but he didn't think it was that expensive.

"Mahilig akong gumawa ng makukulit na video. Kaya nung nakita ko ung mga price tag, ayun, triggered ako," he added. Catherine was the one who shot the video.

What caught him by surprise, too, was the feedback on the video. Many people said they couldn't stop laughing, especially the parents when they read his hashtags: #parakaybaby, #sibabymuna #sakanasapatos, #ganitopala, #helloninong #helloninang, and #Godwillprovide.

"Nakakatuwa din kasi nakarelate sila, na as a dad, as a parent, siyempre yung best yung gusto mo para kay baby. Kahit masakit sa bulsa," Jonas shared.

Many of the comments were words of encouragement and a reminder that it was just the beginning.

One man wrote, "Story of my life din yan, bro. Prepare ka. Madami pa. Hintayin mo pa yung mga monthly vaccine."

One woman warned him the expenses will never stop, especially when the kids start school. "Tipid mode na!" one person wrote.

Other people suggested to borrow or buy second-hand items since babies grow up so fast.

Jonas reveals he and his wife ended up not buying anything on that shopping trip in the video, but they have already planned what they will buy. He's hoping they will finish shopping for Baby Sinag as soon as their schedules free up before the month ends.

"We're willing to buy stroller and bed, kahit medyo expensive. Lalo na kung maganda naman ang quality. Para safe si baby and for future babies na din, para may magagamit na sila," Jonas told Smart Parenting.

The high price of having a baby has shocked Jonas, but he's doing everything to make sure he and Catherine are prepared. "In terms of financial, ready naman po tayo," Jonas said. "Pinanghahawakan talaga namin ung God will provide," he added.

They have yet to decide if they're going to have a baby shower. Who knows? Maybe someone will surprise them!

Needless to say, Jonas is one excited first-time dad. "Being a dad is a privilege. It is God's gift," he said. He even has more video ideas on standby for "good vibes" once the baby arrives.
