Every child is a blessing, and when better to announce a new bundle of joy than at the start of a thanksgiving festival? In a statement posted on Davao City Government's Facebook page, Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio addressed her constituents at the start of the Kadayawan Festival, wished everyone more blessings, and made a surprise announcement.
Inday Sara, as she’d fondly called by her supporters, thanked everyone who helped put up the festival, and shared what she's most thankful for: that she and her husband, lawyer Manases "Mans" Carpio, will be welcoming three new little ones into their family soon -- yes, not just one baby, but three!

"We are expecting triplets and they are doing well on their 7th week. The human body is made to carry just one baby and I am experiencing threefold all the pregnancy symptoms that a woman goes through," Sara revealed. "I am having a hard time with the symptoms as well as the complications of a multi-fetal pregnancy," she added. The news was confirmed by Davao City Information Office (CIO) chief Jefry Tupas in a press conference today at the Davao City Hall.
The lawyer-turned-city mayor also apologized that due to her pregnancy, she wouldn't be able to join the merrymaking and activities scheduled for the week-long festival. Sara said she had been advised by her doctor to avoid crowded places to lessen the chances of exposing her and her babies to infections. Nonetheless, she will continue to fulfill her duties as mayor of Davao City. "I may be physically weak but rest assured that I am on top of the situation here in our city," she said.
Sara, herself a lawyer, has been married to Atty. Mans since 2007. This is Sara's second pregnancy. She and Mans are parents to their son Stingray (real name Mateo Lucas) and adopted daughter Sharkey.

"The President is delighted with the news of his daughter's pregnancy. He is also hopeful that she will be able to see through the pregnancy smoothly and well," said Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar in a press statement. He added that Sara's pregnancy serves as an inspiration for the president to work double time in his fight againt crime and drugs for the future generation.
