The Department of Education (DepEd) has released the implementing guidelines for the upcoming school year 2020-2021. This will be the first time the school year opens under community quarantine due to COVID-19, and the school calendar is not as full as it used to be.
The Education Department earlier said that it's considering a simpler currilucum and will be using other modes of teaching and learning, such as radio, tv, and online avenues such as DepEd Commons. Teachers would also have to rely heavily on the parents as students may need to do a lot of the tasks at home.
The implementing guidelines for school year 2020-2021
As earlier announced, the school year 2020-2021 officially starts on August 24, 2020, and will end on April 30, 2021. Students will have a total of 203 class days, and these may include Saturday classes, if necessary, via distance learning. Classes for students using the Alternative Learning System (ALS) will start on the same day, but the duration of the program would depend on the learner's pace.
Private schools and state local universities and colleges may start online classes as early as the first Monday of June. No face-to-face classes can start earlier than August 24.
Face-to-face class should only have a maximum of 15 to 20 students per class
Schools that are allowed to conduct face-to-face classes must comply with the minimum health standards set by the guidelines of the Department of Health (DOH), the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID), and the Office of The President. They need to submit plans on how they can comply with the minimum health standards and a learning continuity plan in case face-to-face classes are not allowed.

All school activities that involve mass gatherings are cancelled
According to DepEd Order No.007 series of 2020, enrollment for the school year 2020 to 2021 will be conducted on June 1 to 30. This includes students who participated in the early registration for incoming Kindergarten, Grades 1, 7, and 11 students.
Due to the COVID-19 situation, school activities that involve mass gatherings will not push through. These include science fairs, school sports, campus journalism, job fairs, career orientation, and other similar activities. A lot of the other tests that students need to take also depends on whether it will be allowed under IATF rules.
Parent-teacher conferences may be done online or face-to-face but subject to social and physical distancing rules. Report cards may also be given in person, when possible. Grades may also be uploaded online or sent to students, parents, and guardians in consideration of school records confidentiality.
