The Department of Education (DepEd) has set early registration for all public elementary and public high schools on January 25, Saturday.
The goal of DepEd is to prevent logistical problems early on before the 2014 - 2015 school year begins, says Education Secretary Br Armin Luistro FSC, such as shortage of classrooms, chairs, learning materials and the like.
Said Luistro, “We want to make sure the school opening will be smooth, that is why we are doing the preparation as early as January.”
In particular, DepEd hopes to get all five- and six-year-olds to enroll in Kindergarten and Grade 1, respectively. DepEd also hopes to bring out-of-school children (OSC) and out-of-school youth (OSY) back to school by offering them to select their preferred education delivery system. This can be either the alternative delivery mode (ADM) or the alternative learning system (ALS).
According to deped-ne.net, ADMs “address the learning needs of the marginalized pupils and those learners at risk of dropping out in order to help them overcome social and economic constraints in their schooling.”
