  • OL Trap

The Mosquito Ovicidal/Larvicidal Trap, or simply the “OL Trap”, works by attracting the female mosquitoes to lay their eggs on a solution-soaked stick which then kills the hatched eggs upon contact. Based on rigorous tests made by the DOST, the mosquitoes laid 70% of their eggs in the OL Trap versus 30% only in plain water, 98% of which were killed through direct exposure to the solution.

In field testings done in Quezon City and the City of Marikina, results showed that 85% of the larvae laid in the OL Trap were killed, while 100% of those which were laid in plain water grew to adulthood. Furthermore, there was a hundred percent drop rate in dengue cases in Samar from the same period last year compared to this year, while in Leyte, the 190 cases reported last year have been reduced to 3 in the same period this year.

The OL Trap kit includes one cup, 1 lawanit stick, and 4 sachets of the pellet (to be diluted in water to form a solution). Each sachet is good for one week. It is safe, natural and organic. It makes use of no pesticides or insecticides and is easy to set up and use. Government agencies such as the Department of Health (DOH) and the Department of Education (DepEd) are in collaboration with the DOST to distribute OL Trap kits to households and public schools nationwide.

Soon to be available in major supermarkets and drugstores nationwide, the OL Trap is manufactured by the Heritage Veterinary Corporation (HVC). In the meantime, it can be purchased for P20 a kit at Czary Techno Industries at Unit 203 LRI Building, No. 21 Congressional Avenue corner Visayas Avenue, Brgy. Bahay Toro, Quezon City.
