Dream Big Books, an imprint of Summit Books, has launched the children’s book Simply Jesse, the story of former Secretary of Interior and Local Government Jesse M. Robredo. It highlights Jesse as a father, a husband, a political figure, and a role model in the eyes of his youngest daughter, Jillian Robredo, who serves as the storyteller in the book.
Jesse Robredo was mayor of Naga City for 19 years before being appointed by President Noynoy Aquino III to join his cabinet in 2010. Jesse believed that every Negueño must do his or her own part in helping make the city better that is why he led and worked by example. Jesse also lived a simple and humble life. He was a loving and sweet husband to Leni Gerona Robredo, and a cool and supportive Papa to his daughters, Aika, Tricia, and Jillian.
Written by Town & Country’s editor-in-chief Yvette Fernandez and illustrated by Nicole Lim, the story was based on interviews, speeches, and writings of the Robredo family. Simply Jesse tells the story of how Jesse’s honesty and integrity inspired millions of people to live better lives themselves.
A heartwarming and touching story about hard work, public service, and hope for a better Philippines, Simply Jesse moves readers to make a difference in our country, and in other people’s lives.
Net proceeds of Simply Jesse will be donated to the Jesse M. Robredo Foundation, established by his family and close friends to continue Jesse’s legacy of public service and good governance.
