Filipino moms unite to show breastfeeding is best for babies
In honor of Breastfeeding Awareness Month, some 2,000 Filipino moms came together to breastfeed their babies simultaneously in Araneta Coliseum, and it was just one of the venues for this year's "Hakab Na 2017." Support group South PiNanays held a gathering in Ayala Malls South Park in Muntinlupa on the same day, August 5, and another Hakab Na event was held in SM Iloilo, to name a few.
The event wanted to promote breastfeeding, dispel taboos about nursing, and normalize breastfeeding in public. Ros Macachor of non-government advocacy group Breastfeeding Pinays, told the AFP that the country has a "very low infant breastfeeding rate" and "Filipino mothers typically breastfeed their newborns only for the first 24 days before switching to formula milk."ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOWADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Paulyn Jean Rosell-Ubial stressed that breast milk is the best food a mother can give her baby. DOH reports that breastfeeding rates in the country have improved -- from 49 percent in 2013 to 77 percent in 2015, with the help of Unang Yakap, or the DOH's Essential Newborn Care (ENC). Many Pinay moms now continue to breastfeed beyond six months. However, a significant number of babies still wean off the breast after only 12 to 23 months of nursing.

The Dantes family has a lot to celebrate this August. The doting dad turned 37 last August 2, while the loving mom turns 32 last August 12. Over the weekend, Dingdong held an intimate party with just family and friends at Pepita's Kitchen in Makati. Then, he, his wife, and daughter Zia went on a quick getaway to Siargao to celebrate Marian's birthday early.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOWADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
"Another memorable quick getaway with the birthday girl," Dingdong wrote as a caption to one of his photos of Marian, which he posted on Instagram. Other photos show Zia enjoying the beach life, twinning with her mom in Dolce & Gabbana swimsuits. "I think she likes it here," Dingdong wrote as a caption for one of Zia's photos. LOOK: Preggo Michelle Madrigal continues to work out
"Getting it at six months," the sexy preggo wrote as a caption for a video (in fast-forward to fit Instagram's time limit) of doing leg workouts. Michelle also included the hashtag #StrongMama. While many support the soon-to-be mom, a lot of the comments in her post cautioned the newly engaged former actress against exercise. Michelle though didn't seem to mind the unsolicited advice and haters. Working out while pregnant can be beneficial as long as your doctor approves it, you remember to take it easy and listen to your body.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
