This year pregnancy brand What to Expect – in partnership with the United Nations Foundation, the International Medical Corps and 1,000 days – is raising awareness for the importance of healthy pregnancies and healthy babies by proclaiming July 22 as BumpDay!
Every day, 800 expectant women from around the world die from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), 99% of which occur in developing countries, like the Philippines. “Almost all of these deaths occurred in low-resource settings, and most could have been prevented,” added WHO.
Heidi Murkoff, author of the “What to Expect” series, believes we can change these statistics for the better.
“Healthy futures start with healthy beginnings, and the health of the world's mamas-to-be is linked inextricably to the health of our world. We can shape that future, one mom, one bump, one baby at a time,” she wrote in a blog post on Huffington Post.
So she’s calling on all mothers: raise awareness for moms everywhere!
Celebrate motherhood and raise awareness by uploading a photo of your baby bump (to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.), taken today, yesterday or back when you were still pregnant, and caption it with the hashtag #BumpDay.
Show that you care for the welfare of women and babies everywhere! Let’s get the conversation going and grab the attention of nation leaders!
