Following the recall of more than 33,000 bottles of Johnson's Baby Powder in the United States after asbestos contamination, Johnson & Johnson Philippines has released a clarificatory statement.
“For nearly 125 years, Johnson’s has committed to putting the needs and well-being of the people we serve first, that’s why, out of an abundance of caution, we’ve initiated a voluntary recall solely in the United States of Lot #22318RB of Johnson’s Baby Powder.
“We would like to assure everyone that this recall is only limited to the specific lot distributed in the US and does not affect markets out of US, including the Philippines.
“We continue to be committed to the safety of our products. For additional questions or inquiries, you may contact our Johnson & Johnson Consumer Care Center by calling our telephone number (632) 7368-8230 or toll free number 00 800 888 111 00 (for PLDT landline users only).
“Additional information about the safety of our talc can always be found at www.FactsAboutTalc.com.”

The Food and Drug Administration is also working closely with the Department of Health to verify that the Johnson’s Baby Powder being sold in the Philippines is not part of the tainted batch.
Health Undersecretary Eric Domingo, who is also the FDA officer-in-charge, told GMA News, “At this time, we have information that the bottles involved were not sold in the Philippines.”
Meanwhile, in connection with the US product recall, the Associated Labor Unions-Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (ALU-TUCP) has called on the FDA to do necessary tests “to protect consumers from possible asbestos contamination following the recall last week of 33,000 bottles in the US.”
