For the first time, Jennica Garcia has opened up about the many challenges she recently went through, including her separation with husband Alwyn Uytingco and battling COVID-19 with her kids.
The mom of two confirmed the end of her seven-year marriage in May 2021, saying in an interview that “from a family-of-four, we are now just a family-of-three.” It is also the reason why she decided to go back to show business.
In a new interview with GMA-7's news program, 24 Oras yesterday, June 28, the actress revealed that she and Alwyn had gone their separate ways in March.
Jennica adds that March was the toughest month for her family. “It started ng March, the failing of my marriage. And that same month, my lola passed away because of COVID-19,” she tells the news program.
The mom also revealed that she and her kids, Mori, 4, and Alessi, 3, were also infected twice by the virus. After testing negative for COVID-19, they again became positive two weeks after in April 2021. A month later, Jennica also found out that one of her closest friends passed away.
Jennica admits having a difficult time because she had to deal with all these issues while struggling with her new role as a solo parent to her kids.
“Now that I’m a single mom, I have to think of a lot of things that I wasn’t thinking about before. Iba kasi kapag meron kang katuwang sa buhay, you have a partner in life, sa biglang solo parent ka na,” she explains.
What got her through was her faith in God. She also made sure to seek professional help by meeting her psychologist weekly. Her family also proved to be her biggest support group.

“Babangon ako, mahal. At patuloy na babagtas patungo sayo. Mahal na mahal kita,” he says.
Jennica continues to remain quiet on her social media accounts. Her mother, Jean Garcia, on the other hand, commented on some of Alwyn’s posts, alluding to the actor disrespecting her as a mother-in-law and causing her daughter “heartaches.”
