Growing up with just a mom may be frowned upon years back. Today, single moms are celebrated for raising their children on their own. Sadly, there are still some people who look down on them.
Actress Jennylyn Mercado defended her fellow solo mothers against a comment which classifies them as "babaeng naanakan lang." Jennylyn is a single mom to son Jazz (with ex-boyfriend Patrick Garcia).
"To all single moms out there, never let comments like this get to you," she writes on Twitter last August 31, 2020. "We are more powerful than they think they are," Jennylyn added.
Kaya always hold your head up high. We are more powerful than they think we are.
"Having a kid early doesn't make you less of a woman. In fact, it's the opposite. Being a single parent made us stronger than ever," the actress said. It's not easy to be both mom and dads to children, but solo parents are doing it.

The proud single mom then addressed the people who, like the person who tweeted the comment, still belittle solo mothers and said she's sorry for them.
"Lahat ng mga kritisismo sa pagkatao namin nasabi na samin, and yet here we are, raising our kid(s) the best we can. Whatever you say, You can and will never bring a strong woman down," Jennylyn said.
And for those people na minamaliit pa rin kami hanggang ngayon, I feel so sorry for you. Lahat ng mga kritisismo sa pagkatao namin nasabi na samin, and yet here we are. Raising our kid(s) the best we can. Whatever you say, You can and will never bring a strong woman down.
Jennylyn's followers rallied behind the single mom and aired their sentiments as well. Some of them are solo parents themselves.
"Being a single mother is not something that any woman would wish, but unfortunately, it happens. I'm not sad or ashamed of being a single working mom hindi madali maging single mom pero kinakaya, daig pa namin ang may balls," a solo mother tweeted.
Another Twitter user wrote: “Bakit yung babae lagi ang jinajudge? di ba mas dapat yung lalaki din who did not man up and took the responsibility? haist, lipunan!”
