A study claims that children who are hyperactive, have difficulty concentrating and are compulsive tend to develop into trouble adults, unless they learn self-control early on.
Kids from New Zealand and Britain were included in the study and it was found out that those who had low scores for self-control experienced greater problems with money, health and substance abuse as they grew older.
Indicators included “low frustration tolerance, lacks persistence in reaching goals, difficulty sticking with a task, over-active, acts before thinking, has difficulty waiting turn, restless, and not conscientious."
Indicators for future problems were "things like breathing problems, gum disease, sexually transmitted disease, inflammation, overweight, and high cholesterol and blood pressure".
Aside from these, children who misbehaved grew up to have credit card debt and to be single parents.
Said Alexis Piquero, a criminology professor from Florida State University, “The good news is that self-control can change. People can change."
