Farewell, Kals: Kidzania Manila Closes For Good On August 31The play city says the uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic is why they're shutting down.by Kitty Elicay .
After five years of operations, the KidZania Manila theme park will close its doors for good on August 31, 2020, due to the uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a statement, Play Innovations Inc., a subsidiary of ABS-CBN Corporation, said that “even if we are allowed to operate in the future, the ‘new normal’ will prohibit mass gathering and require children to remain at home.’”
The play city has been closed since March 11, after lockdown was declared in the Metro. “With the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing community quarantine, we have complied and suspended operations to prevent the further spread of the virus, which resulted to a massive impact on our revenues,” the statement read.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOWCONTINUE READING BELOWRecommended Videos
These conditions, it said, left KidZania no choice but “to close the play city’s doors permanently.”
The company adds that they will do their best to aid the employees who will be affected by their closure. “Our hearts go out to our employees. We are doing everything we can to aid them at this time of uncertainty, including paying out severance benefits as mandated by law and providing job placement programs for them. We appreciate all their hard work.”
Lastly, they thanked their industry partners and the schools and families who have trusted them over the years. “We salute our Kals — the Generation KidZania — who have spent time with us with unrelenting passion and spirit, which we hope they will keep alive as they face the future and build a better world.”
KidZania Manila opened in 2015 as the first role-play community in the Philippines. The play city was built-to-scale for children, where kids can choose from over 100 immersive role-play activities that encourages them to live out their dream careers.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
In June, two other indoor playgrounds, Fun Ranch and Jump Yard, also announced their closure. According to the guidelines released under Executive Order No. 112, amusement, gaming, and fitness establishments, as well as those in the kids and tourism industries, will not be allowed to operate under the general community quarantine. This includes entertainment centers and facilities.
