Pope Francis to canonize two kids who saw Our Lady of Fatima
The Vatican announced that the pope is set to canonize two of the three Portuguese shepherd children, Jacinta Marto and her brother Francisco, to whom the Our Lady of Fatima appeared at her famous shrine 100 years ago. The canonization will happen during the pope's upcoming visit to the shrine on May 12 to 13. They will be the youngest children who are not martyrs ever to be recognized as saints by the Church.
As the Lady of Fatima foretold, the two kids died young. Jacinta passed at the age of 9, while Francisco passed away at the age of 10. Lucia, the third child who was with them when Fatima appeared, was the only one who reached adult life and who wrote the three secrets of Fatima. One of the three secrets spoke of an assassination of a pope. St. John Paul II, who understood this vision referred to him, beatified the two children at the Fatima shrine on May 13, 2000, after recognizing the miracle to their intercession. Lucia became a Carmelite nun in 1907 and died in 2005; her beatification is also under way. (americamagazine.org)
