Low-Income Households To Get Free Electricity For March And AprilThanks to the nationwide subsidy programby Lei Dimarucut-Sison .
Customers who consume less than 50 kilowatt-hours of electricity won't have to pay for their consumption in March and in April, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said yesterday, April 15, in a virtual press conference.
"'Yung mga tinatawag na lifeline consumer ng mga electric cooperative dito sa Luzon, maging sa Visayas at Mindanao, libre na po ang inyong konsumo sa loob ng March to April billing period," he said.
The electricity subsidy program, called Pantawid Liwanag, aims to assist the about 3 million households who get their electricity through electric cooperatives whose finances have been affected by the enhanced community quarantine. It is a nationwide initiative led by the Philippine Rural Electric Cooperatives Association Inc. (PHILRECA).
Electric cooperatives are private, independent electric utility companies owned by the member-consumers, whose operations are supervised by the National Electrification Administration (NEA).

The National Electrification Administration has also announced that 90 electric cooperatives in Luzon are granting a 30-day grace period to consumers whose electricity bills are due within the period of the enhanced community quarantine.CONTINUE READING BELOWRecommended Videos
As a preventative measure for the COVID-19 crisis, the Philippine government has placed Luzon under an enhanced community quarantine up to April 30, 2020.
