Barely a month after their second baby’s gender reveal (she’s having a girl!), Mariel Rodriguez-Padilla and husband Robin hosted a baby shower for their daughter, whom they affectionately call “Baby Surprise.”
The soon-to-be mom of two shared what went on during the party on a video uploaded on her YouTube channel. The baby shower, which was held at Raffles Makati, featured a cute dinosaur theme, “a dinosaur hatching party,” as Mariel calls it, styled by her sister Kaye Termulo-Garcia.
Mariel admits she chose the theme even before finding out that she was having a girl, and she based the colors on her firstborn Isabella’s favorite pastel hues.“You’re gonna love the party. The party is for you, [but] it’s only a secret. Kunwari for your baby sister but it’s really for you,” Mariel jokingly told her daughter as they were checking out the ballroom where the baby shower was going to be held.

For the kids, various activities were set up, including a crafts area by Color Play Happy, dinosaur sandbox by Smart Play, a play area by Ada’s Wonderland, and dinosaur painting by Learning on the Gogh.

Celebrity guests, including Mariel’s It’s Showtime co-hosts Amy Perez, Jhong Hilario, and Ryan Bang took turns guessing what the name would be. Vina Morales, Shalani Soledad-Romulo, and Valerie Concepcion all guessed the baby would have “Maria” as one of her names.

Mariel, who is now around five months along, explained that since she and Isabella were also named Maria, it only made sense for her secondborn to be named Maria as well. “Maria is like Mother Mary,” shares Mariel, who is a Catholic. “And Gabriela like Gabriela Silang.”
Mariel shares that Robin thought of the name ‘Gabriela’ since his mom, Eva Carino-Padilla, is a descendant of the Philippine hero. “When I heard Gabriela, I thought, bagay siya sa Isabella,” she says. “Right away, nag-agree kami. Perfect.”Watch the highlights of the baby shower below:
