Mayor Isko Rescues Hundreds of Street Children in ManilaThe mayor also said he will find a way to make the parents liable for their children who loiter the streetsby Lei Dimarucut-Sison .
Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso continues to clean up the streets of Manila in only his second month as city mayor.
In July, within days after he assumed public office, Mayor Isko’s administration has successfully removed obstructions along the busy streets of Divisoria, Recto, and Blumentritt, and relocated vendors elsewhere to improve the traffic situations in these areas, to the delight of a majority of Manilenos who never thought such a feat was even remotely possible.
Mayor Isko promised that this was only “the tip of the iceberg,” and that he would continue the said cleanup to restore cleanliness and order in the city.

True to his word, the mayor is now looking into clearing the streets of children who seem to have been abandoned by their parents. Last month, Mayor Isko gave a warning to the parents of children who loiter the streets of Manila.
One way or another, I will find a way kung paano ko kayo pananagutin sa inyong kapabayaan sa mga anak ninyo na menor de edad,” he said during a press conference.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
He added that he has given instructions to the Municipal Depertment of Social Welfare and Development (MDSWD) to round up these “solvent boys” and bring them to MDSWD, and then to Manila Boys Town, an orphanage located in Marikina.

Last August 4, 2019, the 44-year old mayor posted on his official Facebook page that so far, a total of 365 minors have been rescued off the streets of Manila in the last 30 days. He included a photo of a room full of the rescued kids in his post.
Himself a father to four sons and a daughter whose ages range from 7 to 21 years old, Mayor Isko called on the parents of these children to be responsible and give them proper care.
