Mayor Isko's Son Joaquin Is A Thrifty SpenderThe teenager takes after his parents' good money senseby Lei Dimarucut-Sison .
People often associate power with lavish excesses for a reason. Politicians and their families, for example, are assumed to benefit from favors, and that their children get everything they want, causing them to grow up spoiled.
Because his father is the incumbent mayor of the city of Manila, showbiz newcomer Joaquin Domagoso may very well fit the mold, but the 18-year-old begs to disagree.
In an interview with Pep.ph, Joaquin revealed that as a rule, he doesn’t get an allowance if he doesn’t go to school.
“If you want to get your allowance, dapat pumasok ka. So kung hindi ka papasok, wala kang allowance,” he says.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Joaquin is quite thrifty and is able to save from his baon of P200, since he does not spend for the commute.
His allowance is used for food, which he buys from the school canteen. “Ang lunch sa school is like Php65 to Php85, depending on the meal.
“Kung may meat, mas expensive. Kung noodles, mas cheap, di ba?
“‘Tapos, tubig, okay na! ‘Tapos after class, yung sa stick, fishball pero hotdog binibili ko,” he adds. And his favorite snack? “V-Cut!” he was quick to reply.
The teenager does not go around with bodyguards, and neither does he own a car. Asked why, he replied, “It’s so expensive!” He does not plan on asking his father for a car, either. “Hindi ako marunong mag-drive, and magastos ang kotse, di ba? Gas, insurance...”ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
What advice did his father Mayor Isko Moreno, with whom he shares the same birth date (October 24), give him now that he is starting a career in show business?
Joaquin replied, “[To] Listen, always listen. Parang ganun. Listen to your manager, listen to your co-artists...
“And be careful. Because now that you’re out in the real world, everybody’s watching.”
Mayor Isko and his wife Diana have four other children besides Joaquin Andre: Vincent, 22; Frances Diane, 19; Franco, 14; and the youngest, Drake.
