MOA Arena debutante and family could have spent nearly P5M for the party
The first ever debutante to hold her party at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena, Dian Seranilla, has taken the Internet by storm, and most of us are left in awe reading her story. In an interview with Candymag.com, she says she and her family chose the venue for her New York Fashion Week-themed celebration because it "met all the specifications needed for the stage." She adds, "We are a big family, and we all had guests to invite. Since it is the last debut for my immediate family, we wanted to reconnect with everyone," which explains why about 1,000 guests were invited to the party held last March 26.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Saying the debut was grand is an understatement -- it was more like a mini-concert featuring Dian's family and friends, and not suprisingly so, because producing concerts featuring foreign artists happens to be one of her family's businesses. With all the attention Dian's debut is getting, Pep.ph estimates that the family may have spent a whopping P4.7 million for it, excluding exchange deals and discounts.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
To give you an idea, Pep.ph estimates the rental fee for the MOA Arena for four hours would cost around 600,000 pesos and an additional rate of 120,000 pesos per excess hour.
Catering was by K by Cunanan, which is estimated at P1,000 per plate. Dian's gowns were by Albert Andrada (designer for Pia Wurtzbach's Miss Universe gown) and Ezra Santos (designer of Heart Evangelista's wedding gown).ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
There was a LED-type and magazine-type invitation, personalized USB for favors, a pre-party fashion photo shoot in Balesin, and more.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOWADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOWADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
"It was very overwhelming, but it is the debut we were all dreaming of. Words cannot suffice #DVSaDecadeAndEight. The debut exceeded all our expectations," Dian said. Happy 18th, and may all your dreams come true!

A picture indeed speaks a thousand words. Photographer Laura Fifield was asked to document in photos the time when Natalie Bancroft, from Spokane Valley in Washington, delivers her third baby by water birth at home. "Natalie and her husband were immediately in love with their new son. Once Simon was born, Natalie moved from where the birth pool was into the comfort of her bed. Simon started nursing right away!" Fifield wrote on her website. "After time spent doing skin to skin and nursing, it was time to weigh him. Imagine the surprise when her midwife announced 'He’s 11lbs, 2oz Natalie!' Oh my goodness, we were all shocked!" While she and the midwives were expecting a big baby, no one thought she would give birth to an 11-pounder, and this priceless photo by Fifield had perfectly captured her reaction. (mashable.com)
Study: 1 in 10 pregnant women infected with Zika had babies with congenital defects
Of 1,000 women who gave birth in 2016, 250 had confirmed signs of Zika after testing, and one in 10 had a fetus or baby with birth defects, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The information comes from the U.S. Zika Pregnancy Registry, which tracks pregnant women with evidence of Zika infection, and currently has the largest data on birth outcomes for women with laboratory-confirmed infection with Zika. Evidence shows some babies born to Zika-infected women develop vision or hearing problems, as well as other brain abnormalities that don’t emerge until later in development. The findings -- which present a higher rate of birth defect, the most common being microcephaly, than a previously reported in December 2016 -- stressed the need to remain vigilant against Zika.
