On Tuesday, August 18, 2020, Pingol was running late for work and was waiting for a shuttle when she saw personnel from the Bangkal Fire Emergency Rescue Disaster Support (FERDS) Makati. Pingol didn't hesitate and offered to assist in the baby's delivery. "There's no other person to help them kundi ako...Saka nurse din naman ako. May sinumpaan kami," Pingol told ABS-CBN News.
The pregnant woman gave birth while lying on a carton box on an empty roadside parking lot. Using the equipment of Bangkal FERDS Makati, Pingol wiped the baby down after birth and cut the infant's umbilical cord.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Shortly after, the mom and her baby girl were taken to a hospital via an ambulance. They are reportedly in good condition.
Rescue Committee head Kagawad Christian Jacinto, a medical technician, described Pingol's behavior as calm and collected even though she was surrounded by bystanders who were in a panic.
Pingol is a company nurse and doesn't work in a hospital because she is currently in remission from leukemia, which affects the blood and bone marrow.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
"Hindi po nagkamali 'yung profession na pinili niyo po. Hindi siya namili o nagdalawang isip, (selfless) love yung ginawa niya sa pagtulong," Jacinto told ABS-CBN News.
