Theirs may be an unconventional setup, but Paolo Ballesteros, single and gay, thinks his daughter understands him.
The Eat Bulaga co-host told Pep.ph that Keira Claire, his child with a former girlfriend, "gets it."
"Luckily, my daughter is a bright kid, eme. So, wala nang ano yun, wala nang problema."
They have such an openness between them that although they have never really discussed his sexual orientation, ("Siyempre hindi pa, ten years old lang yun ano...") he does not feel the need to hide it either.
"Bahay ko yun 'tsaka anak ko siya 'tapos magtago ako?"
Paolo is hilarious on TV, but when it comes to his daughter, his stricter side prevails. In a December 2016 article, he said this is because "wala namang pwedeng ibang dumisiplina sa anak ko kundi ako, di ba? So I think I have to do that part bilang isang parent, kasi otherwise paano matututo?”
These days, Paolo is able to fulfill his fatherhood role in a more hands-on manner, since Keira now lives in the Philippines, albeit still a few hours away from him. In 2016, Keira and her mom were residing in Illinois, United States, but they have since come home and are currently based in Baguio, where Keira studies.

Nonetheless, Paolo takes every opportunity to spend time with his daughter, usually on school breaks. They paint together, go out of town together, watch RuPaul's Drag Race together, and Paolo even sewed a dress for Keira recently. His Instagram feed is full of photos of his little girl who has grown into a beautiful young lady.

Paolo says he also supports Keira's show business dreams, although he is clear about wanting her to finish school first before committing to anything serious.
"Gusto niyang mag-artista, e, oo. Kung gusto niya, ngayon nagvi-VTR. Actually nag-audition siya as young Darna, e, kaya lang Inglisera.
"Di marunong mag-Tagalog. Marunong naman mag-Tagalog pero slang.
"Pero ang gusto ko talaga ay mag-aral muna siya. Pag bakasyon lang, puwede na siya mag-VTR and stuff, mag-shoot ganyan.
