Pasig City To Give Cash Gifts To Public School Students Graduating With HonorsPasig City government aims to allow more scholars to have free tuition and higher incentives.by Rachel Perez .
Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto announced yesterday, February 12, 2020, that he signed a new resolution, which will award money to public school students graduating with honors.
To qualify to receive the cash gifts, graduating students in elementary and senior high school must earn the recognition of “with honors,” “with high honors,” or “with highest honors” after completing the curriculum in their respective public schools.
Graduating public grade school students with the highest honors are entitled to Php1,500 cash gift. Grade school students with high honors will receive Php1,000, while Php500 will be given to students with honors.
Senior high school students who are graduating with the highest honors will be awarded Php3,000. Graduating students with high honors are entitled to Php2,000, while those this high honors will receive Php1,000.
Giving cash gifts to public school students who have displayed exemplary performance in academics has been in practice for years. Sotto shared a photo of himself and the resolution and thanked the Pasig City Council for approving it.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW

In August 2019, Pasig City also awarded 110 city scholars with cash incentives for graduating with Latin honors. Summa cum laude graduating students will receive Php30,000. Magna cum laude students will get Php25,000, and graduating cum laude students are entitled to Php20,000.
"I hope these incentives will also motivate the next batches to study harder," Sotto said. "Hindi po ito pondo ng pulitiko, pondo ito ng taong bayan," he stressed, encouraging the graduates to give back to the local community.
Giving cash gifts for graduating students with honors is with the Local Government Code of 1991. Aside from giving graduating students certificates of completion, school authorities should also give “medals of distinction and other incentives to graduating students who distinguished themselves in their academic work.”ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
This year, Pasig City will allot Php400 million for their scholarship program, so that more students can have free tuition and higher incentives.
