Families And Residents Of Pasig City Are Getting Christmas Gift Bags This Month! The gift bags are being distributed house-to-house.by Kate Borbon .
In November 2019, Mayor Vico Sotto of Pasig City launched Pamaskong Handog and conducted a house-to-house distribution of the Christmas gift bags to all the families living in the city, Rappler reports. The distribution of the gift bags will take place over 12 weeks.
The local government used around P260 million to produce 400,000 gift bags (twice the 180,000 bags produced last year) containing food products that families can use to cook their Christmas meals, like rice, pasta noodles, corned beef, Vienna sausage, and fruit cocktail. According to Mayor Sotto, each bag costs around P600.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
“Maraming savings ang lokal na pamahalaan ngayon,” the mayor told reporters. “Una, kasi naglilinis kami ng gobyerno. Sinisiguro namin, walang overpricing, tama ang presyo nung binibili namin, kaya maraming savings.
“So itong savings na ‘to, kanino ba dapat mapunta? Isauli na lang natin sa tao sa pamamagitan ng Pamaskong Handog.”ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Inquirer.net also reports that in a statement, Mayor Sotto said, “Pinapaabot ng inyong lokal na pamahalaan ang diwa ng pagbibigayan sa isang simpleng handog na makadagdag sa inyong pagdiriwang ng Pasko.”
The mayor revealed that over 2,000 city government staff and volunteers are helping out in delivering the gift bags to the residents.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Aside from families, other beneficiaries of the Pamaskong Handog program include 7,125 undernourished children from Kinder to Grade 6, 6,095 daycare students, and 4,905 supervised neighborhood children.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
The gift bag distribution also doubles as a way to collect data for the local government to use in policymaking.
“We will have a comprehensive survey in the entire Pasig City area to determine the services that the people need, especially the services related to healthcare,” Mayor Sotto said, according to Inquirer.net.
