  • The Senate has just passed a bill ensuring mandatory Philhealth coverage for PWDs. Senator Risa Hontiveros, who co-authored the bill with Senators Legarda, Aquino IV, Villanueva, and Recto, announced this development on her Facebook page on July 30.

If Senate Bill 1391 is passed, all PWDs will be automatically enrolled and covered by the national health insurance program, and their premium contributions will be paid for by the government. In the case of formally employed PWDs, their employer and the national government will share the cost of their premium contributions equally.

The bill also charges PhilHealth with developing “exclusive packages for PWDs that will address their specific health and development needs.”

Sa ilalim ng panukalang batas na ito, ang serbisyong pangkalusugan ay napapalapit sa lahat, lalung-lalo na sa mga Pilipinong may kapansanan,” Hontiveros said in a Facebook video announcing the bill’s approval.
