Pokwang, 45, Won't Let Age Stop Her from Growing Her Family"Hindi pala sa edad yun, nasa dasal," she said.by Rachel Perez .
Comedienne Pokwang was a single parent for a long time until she and American host and actor Lee O'Brien met on the set of the movie "Edsa Woolworth" in 2014. Three years into the relationship, and after one miscarriage, the couple welcomed their first child together in January 2018.
Now 45, and a mom to two daughters—22-year-old Ria Mae Subong and seven-month-old Malia Francine O'Brien—Pokwang has hinted that she's not yet done growing her family. The actress, whose real name is Marietta Subong, insists that even with her age, nothing is impossible if it was up to God.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
"Alam mo, huwag daw magsasabi ng 'No.' Kung talagang bibigyan ka, bibigyan ka," Pokwang replied when asked if she was open to giving Malia a sibling. "Hindi ko sinasabing hindi na, kasi huwag nating kuwestyunin ang Kanyang kapangyarihan, 'no?" she told Pep.ph in an exclusive interview.
The comedienne quipped, "Pag sinabi kong hindi na ako puwede kasi sa edad ko, e, kung narinig Niya, 'Ah, ganun ba? O, eto.' Pak!"ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Pokwang shared that she wasn't sure she would still get pregnant and give birth to another child after having Mae 22 years ago. "Pero siguro nga, huwag mong kinukuwestiyon si God... Hindi pala sa edad yun, nasa dasal," she said.
A woman may have difficulty getting pregnant past age 35, but it's not impossible—a lot of factors come into play, such as the woman's reproductive and overall health. Pokwang was 44 when she became pregnant with Malia.

Like Pokwang, there have been other celebrity women who have "broken the laws of nature," so to speak. Actress Aubrey Miles, 40, is currently pregnant with her third child. Expectant beauty queen Miriam Quiambao, 43, conceived the natural way after a failed IVF attempt two years ago.
However, Pokwang is not too concerned about testing positive for pregnancy soon. She reveals that she and Lee have not resumed being intimate since her pregnancy. "Ang tagal na. Mga one year and a half na rin kami… ay, teka, one year and two months na kaming hindi nagsisiping," she said.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
"We have romantic moments, but also she’s still just recovering," her partner Lee, who was with her during the interview, chimed in. Pokwang also just got back to work, and they've got their hands full with Malia. "We’re really happy with Malia right now, and she’s the most beautiful thing in the world right now," he added.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Lee admitted, however, that he would very much like to have another baby. "But I’m not forcing to have another one," he said. "I also got to think about it, how she’s doing, and if she’s willing to have it. She's had already three beautiful children so far," Lee explained, which includes Pokwang's eldest son Shin, who died of brain cancer when he was just five.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW

Pokwang realizes that raising Malia today is not the same as when she was raising Mae two decades back. “Iba na ang panahon ngayon. Ang bilis mong makakuha ng impormasyon ngayon," she said referring to the power of the Internet. “Nung panahon ng mga una kong anak na sina Mae at Shin, pagka nagkakaproblema ako, hindi mo alam ang gagawin, e. Iaasa mo rin sa nanay mo, e," Pokwang shared.
The higher cost of raising a child these days is another reality, but Pokwang and Lee don't mind working hard to earn for their daughter's future.
Yung sobrang-sobra talaga," she added.
Malia, according to Pokwang, is an easy child, and only cries when she's hungry. The little girl has been a big source of stress relief not only for her parents, but also for her big sister Mae.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
"Iba yung naibibigay ng bata sa amin araw-araw... Puro good times lang palagi. Yung parang, sige, kahit wala na tayo, basta siya masaya siya," the mom of two said. Indeed, it's difficult not to be enamored by such a cute and happy baby!
